Matte Lipstick Trick
17:57:00
Recently there has been a massive hype about Matte lipsticks
and I have been one of those people going crazy for them. I can’t seem to find
a brand that has a Matte lipstick that doesn’t dry your lips out – if you guys
know any please do tell! Anyway the other day I came across an article saying
to put talcum powder on any lipstick to turn it Matte, I didn’t believe it
would work and so I thought I would give it a go myself.
I’m not the best at applying lipstick so please excuse the
odd smudge here and there.
I thought I’d give it a go with the more bold colours as I
thought the results would show up more than a pink or nude colour. I first
tried with a bright red by L’Oreal, I tipped some talcum powder onto the back of my hand and
just used my index finger and dabbed away at my lips. At first it came up quite white but the more you
dab the more it went away and then alas I had matte lips.
The texture itself isn’t
the nicest of feelings however it is quite smooth and for a quick fix
alternative it’s not that bad. It also means that you can continue using your
favourite colours and if you’re saving/ budgeting like me you don’t have to go
out and buy a whole new range of lipsticks – no matter how much you may want
too.
I also tried this with a darker colour, Revlon Super
Lustrous Lipstick in the colour Va Va Violet, and I found it worked a lot
better with this colour than it did the red which I am assuming it’s because it’s
a lot darker and so the difference is more noticeable.
For reference any pictures used on this post are free from
filters and are completely natural with the exception of the use of flash because it was late evening when I did this.
Let me know if you have tried this and if you have any tips
on applying lipstick better – I was never any good at colouring within the
lines.

You should definitely give it a go, I'd love to see it in some other colours. Aw thank you Katie :)
DeleteThat's an awesome trick to have. I'm going to try that because like you I hate when dries especially in the winter. Would love if you can link up to http://the-wardrobe-stylist.com/2016/03/11/st-patricks-day-look/
ReplyDeleteThis is such an awesome trick! It looks like it works really well! I'm loving matte lips so I must try it out! I find that MAC matte lipsticks don't dry your lips until you take it off & Revlons lip crayons are also really good to try out too! x

Thanks for the heads up about the Lipsticks / Crayons I'll definitely need to invest.
DeleteLet me know how you get on!:)
I'm not a fan of drying lip products and I think this would feel too odd. It is a great trick though!

Honestly it's not as bad as you might think! Definitely worth giving it a go if you can, even just in the evening as a test. You never know you might love it!

I've never heard of this trick before but it sounds like a great cost-effective tip. I tend to eat off half my lipstick during meals though, not sure I want to add talcum powder to that mix!

Hahaha that's brilliant! I'll be honest I haven't actually tested what it's like during eating so you could be right, nonetheless still an easy way to create a matte lipstick!

Oh look at that eyes!I have tried this powder trick ;)

I do this with translucent powder, but I put a piece of tissue over my lips then use a powder brush to dab it on top of the powder, it stops too much powder going on and it making the lipstick a different colour!

The tissue is a good idea! I must give it a go :)
DeleteThanks for the tip
Red lips suit you very well, you look awesome in the first picture!

Aw thank you so much! For some reason I try to avoid red shades and sway towards nudes or grey tones.
DeleteI always use a lip brush when applying reds and plums, that's how I keep in line! Also, I find using a lip brush helps the application last a lot longer as it actually goes into your lip creases. (That sounds so weird haha!)
ReplyDeleteSally - DiagonSally
That's a good idea, perhaps I'll give that a go. Do you just rub the brush on the end of the lipstick or...?
DeleteDefinitely does not sound weird!
Wow this is genius! Great tip.

I used to use powders to matify my lips but I just hate the texture and the way it feels after a few hours of wear! The Mac matte lipsticks are amazing for matte lips without making your lips look dry!:)
